This is the first year that the Club entered a team for this championship on the Huntspill 4th July 2009. Although there was a big cock up on the draw by the organisers we eventually got out to go fishing even though the section draw was still incorrect. However, out of the 9 teams fishing we finished a respectable 6th which was a good effort from the team for the first time in such an event. Well done to Adie Baker {click for photo - having a well deserved drink} for coming 2nd in his section and for Steve Bonwick and Dave Baker for coming 3rd in their sections. Steve had a novel way of starting his match, he cast his feeder and it caught the top three sections of his pole which ended up in the middle of the Huntspill. Fortunately it floated and it was eventually recovered for him.
A mixed result for the opening day. A lot of anglers had pre-baited and named swims and were on the bank from sunrise. Some pegs produced brilliant results particularly in the upper reaches of the Kenn as is usual on the opening day. Paul Nichols had a brilliant 120lb+ bag above Manmoor even though he pre-baited but ended up fishing elsewhere due to floating weed etc in his pre-baited area. See photo. Elsewhere there were mixed results with some areas struggling for bites because the roach are not yet showing although they are around as there is a phenominal amount of fry in the margins. However, the good news is that the Chublets we put in last year have spread out through out the river and being caught, now 8 - 9oz. This bodes good for the future because even though still small they put up a good fight.
Since the first day the bream have definitely spread out and are now showing through out. Chris Ford had a good bag on the lower reaches at 9M on Saturday 20th June.
